Eid-ul-Adha 2016!

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Eid Mubarak everyone!
We celebrated yesterday - Monday 12 September. Above is the beautiful sunrise from Eid morning. This year, we decided to be organised and prepare all the food the day before. Seriously guys. This was the best idea ever! Our menu was simple but delicious:

Chicken, potato and pea samosas
Chana chaat
Lamb biryani
Green yoghurt chutney
Chocolate poke cake

 Here are more photos:

The prep began on Friday by making the samosa filling.
Then came the folding.
And of course, we had to sample them.
The rest were frozen and ready for Eid day.
The day before Eid, we began by making the rasmalai.

Once the rasmalai was cooked and cooled, the bowls went into the fridge to chill completely and ready for Eid.
Next, a chocolate poke cake. Look at that delicious batter!

The cake was baked, poked, covered with delicious things and popped into the fridge ready for Eid.

Next, the savoury things. We made a chana chaat.

This is the ultimate make-ahead salad. The longer it sits, the better it tastes.
It was so nice to see the live Hajj coverage from Makkah whilst we were cooking.
Finally, the main dish - a lamb biryani.

Once the biryani was cooked, it was left to cool until the next day. It always tastes better the next day - the flavour develops.
Sunset at the end of the Day of Arafah.
Eid-ul-Adha day!
The Eid prayer from Makkah.

Watching the live Hajj coverage brought back so many memories of our own.

Time for Eid lunch!

Chana chaat with chickpeas, potatoes and a tamarind sauce.

Crispy samosas filled with spicy chicken, potatoes and peas.
Lamb biryani with lemon, onions and green chillies.

Chocolate poke cake with chocolate fudge and cocoa whipped cream.

Cold, sweet rasmalai with cardamoms and almonds.
Everything was so tasty and making things in advance was well worth it. I highly recommend it.

The afternoon and evening were spent with the newest addition to the family.

She's nearly a month old now, spends most of her time snoozing but has the world's most cutest feet!
For Eid dinner, a treat from my cousin.
Chicken Parmo with garlic sauce.
And, pizza!
