Eid-ul-Adha 2017!

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Eid Mubarak!
I hope you've all had a wonderful day. Ours has been very busy but in a good way as it was filled with lots of family and delicious food. Eid-ul-Adha marks the completion of the Hajj pilgrimage by those fortunate enough to be there this year. Even though today was hectic, I still managed to find a little time here and there to watch some of the live coverage. May Allah accept from everyone lucky enough to do Hajj this year - ameen. Back to us at home, this was today's menu:

chicken kebabs
beef kebabs
pico de gallo salsa
cucumber and pepper salad
green yoghurt chutney

chicken pulao
beef meatball curry with mint
qurbani lamb curry

chocolate orange cheesecake
firni

a few snaps:

the night before Eid.
I bought all the chocolate orange.
and, used it to make a cheesecake.
over a biscuit base.
and, into the fridge to set overnight.
other prep included mixing up a batch of spiced beef mince.
rolling into koftas ready for a curry.
the day of Eid-ul-Adha 2017!
fresh lilies for Eid morning.
yakhni on for the pulao.
full!
boiling and nearly ready to steam.
time to get the cheesecake out of its tin.
guys, it was going so well until I managed to squish one of the sides. oops.
glad rags on and ready for Eid lunch.
chicken kebabs and beef kebabs.
cucumber pepper salad - cucumber + bell pepper + salt + pepper + sugar + white wine vinegar + fresh mint.
pico de gallo - cherry tomatoes + onion + lime juice + salt + pepper + fresh coriander.
chicken pulao.
beef kofta curry with fresh mint.
eat!
those lilies had dropped off the main bouquet and so I just threw them onto the table!
dessert this year was firni. this is similar to kheer but is made with ground rice.
the other dessert was a chocolate orange cheesecake.
the cheesecake was still on its base and was sliding around the cake stand so we ended up using blu tack to help it stick down better!
this was a no-bake cheesecake and I used this recipe.
next time, I won't put the melted chocolate on top as it ended up hardening and making the cheesecake really difficult to slice.
other than that, I'm really happy with how the cheesecake turned out. I even managed to hide the wonky side!
sliced!
a definite must-make for any chocolate orange fan.
I hope you also had a very tasty Eid!
And, looked just as good as this little niece of mine!
