Chocolate Biscuit Fridge Bars

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

It's Wednesday and time for a treat!

 These Chocolate Biscuit Fridge Bars are definitely that. These unassuming little bars are highly addictive once eaten and I've made them 3 times in the past few weeks for various different people. 
This recipe came because I was sick of opening the biscuit tin and seeing broken biscuits that couldn't be served to guests so I did a little digging and found this recipe. Of course this recipe would still work with whole biscuits but I think this sort of indulgence would be justified with some moral cause behind - the using up of those lonely broken biscuits.
Add whatever else you want to these little guys - dried fruit, nuts, your favourite chocolate bar (these would be good) or anything else you want.

A Simple List of Ingredients:

1. Milk Chocolate 
2. Dark Chocolate
3. Biscuits
4. Butter
5. Golden Syrup
6. Raisins

Bismillah, let's bake (kind of)!

First things first, line a cake tin with cling film. I used a rectangle one as it would be easier to cut into equal pieces. You can buy the tin that I used here.

Next, the Biscuits! Welcome to my biscuit tin! The main residents on that Sunday afternoon were Rich Tea biscuits and a few Oreos

I used mainly rich tea biscuits but any will do.

Crush the biscuits using either a food processor or in a food bag with a rolling pin. I used the processor as it was much easier - they don't have to be super fine, just in to little pieces.

Time for the chocolate! You'll need a mixture of both Milk Chocolate and Dark Chocolate.

Place a pan of water onto the heat to boil.

Once it boils, turn it right down.

Into a heatproof large bowl, break up the milk chocolate.

And the dark chocolate. 

Squeeze in Golden Syrup.

And, add in Butter.

Place the bowl over the pan of simmering water. Make sure the water doesn't touch the bottom of the bowl - it if it does, pour a little water out.

Leave the mixture to melt on a low heat - giving it a stir now and again.

Add a few Raisins to the biscuit pieces along with anything else you like - nuts, more dried fruit, chocolate chips - anything!

Once the chocolate is all melted and delicious, remove from the heat.

Throw in all the biscuit mix.

Give it a good mix and a sneaky taste.

Scrape the whole mixture into the prepared tin.

Flatten out and allow to cool slightly for about 15 minutes.

Place the tin into the fridge for 1-2 hours to set completely - making this the perfect make ahead treat or gift.

Once set, turn out.

Peel off the cling film.

Slice and serve!

Chocolate Biscuit Fridge Bars

Adapted from BBC Food 

Ingredients – makes approx. 12 large bars

250 grams (8 ounces) Biscuits

150 grams (5 ounces) Milk Chocolate

150 grams (5 ounces) Dark Chocolate

100 grams (3.5 ounces) Butter

150 grams (5 ounces) Golden Syrup

Raisins etc, to taste


Line a shallow square or rectangle cake tin with cling film, so that it hangs over the sides.

Bash the biscuits with a rolling pin in a food bag or in a food processor.

Melt the milk chocolate, dark chocolate, golden syrup and butter in a bowl over a pan of simmering water.

Remove the bowl from the heat, and add in the biscuits and raisins etc. Stir well.

Put the mixture into the tin, and smooth out. Allow to cool for 15 minutes.

Chill in the fridge for 1-2 hours until completely set.

Slice into bars and serve!
