Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!
This recipe is for Quick Garlic Daal. It is a really delicious vegetarian dish, and when served with hot chappatis and achar (Pakistani pickle), it cannot be beaten! We often make this in our home after Eid - it's a refreshing change after all the meat and chicken feasts!
A Simple List of Ingredients:
1. Cumin Seeds
2. Ground Turmeric
3. Red Chilli Powder
4. Ground Coriander
5. Water
6. Salt
7. Red Lentils (Masoor Daal)
8. Split Lentils (Chana Daal)
9. Vegetable Oil
10. Garlic
11. Fresh Coriander

Bismillah, let's begin!
Take two teaspoons cumin seeds.
Add them to the hot oil.
Fry for a minute.
Next, take a whole garlic bulb. Peel and thinly slice.
Add the garlic to the pan.
Fry for two minutes.
Next, take:
Two teaspoons red chilli powder
1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
Three teaspoons ground coriander
Add the spices to the pan.
Stir fry for another minute.
Now, pour the cooked daal with all its water into the pan.
Stir well.
Bring to the boil, and then simmer for a few minutes.
Add salt, to taste.
Throw in a handful of chopped fresh coriander.
Stir well, and the daal is ready!
Serve immediately with hot rice or chappatis!
Wasalaam!

Omg I loved this rice when I was young , one of my favourite dishes, I will definitely try and cook this , I've never tried cooking this before as watching my mum to do this years ago always seemed soooooo complicated and I'm sure she used to put it in the oven too, can't wait to try it
ReplyDeleteHope you love it as much as you did when you were younger! :)

I've just prepared it, and it's really yummy!
Wa alaikumus salaam, so glad you enjoyed the daal.
DeleteHello, can I ask what the black pan you're using is? It looks like it has a different bottom to most pans..
ReplyDeleteSo sorry but I'm not sure. It was a gift given to us years ago.
DeleteI'm not sure what I done wrong but the garlic and chana daal tasted raw still (hard to bite) however the taste was beautiful, maybe on spicier side for me. However , I will try this out again! MashaAllah
