Some Random Bits From Life Lately!

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

It's Sunday! My favourite day of the week!
I thought I would drop in with a few random bits and pieces from my life lately.
One of the best bits is my niece up there who is literally getting cuter and cuter with each passing day, Masha Allah. She is teething already and anything in her hand will go straight to her mouth.
Speaking of teeth, I had a filling last week and ended up needing two injections (thanks to some sensitive nerves!) I ended up coming out of the dentist looking like I had been punched. It was the weirdest sensation ever. The appointment was in the morning and I was, as always, running late. I was made later by the fact that I had to brush my teeth before going to the dentist. Which got me thinking - why do people always do that? Do you that? I mean, I'm sure the dentist can see past your hurried brush session to what you've actually been subjecting your poor teeth to in these last three months. Every time I have a dentist appointment, my mother insists I brush my teeth again before leaving the house. Like it will make a major difference!

So, I'm not the biggest avocado fan. I've tried it in guacamole and even smashed up with peri peri sauce but I'm still not feeling it. I even cut my hand cutting into one recently so was most put off it. Until I put the avocado into my smoothie. Oh my gosh, it was so good! I'm thinking about doing a post all about our smoothie habits soon. We make them most days and lots of you have been asking about how we freeze and store all the fruit that we use for them. Anyway, this one was delicious with avocado, orange juice, frozen strawberries, frozen blueberries, date nectar and greek yoghurt. Try it!

Back to this little muffin. She's nearly 6 months and has recently discovered her own voice. She enjoys joining in all our conversations with her own particularly high-pitched shrieks and squeaks. Plus she's so excited to be trying food soon!

Aaaaaah! This drove me crazy! Our internet decided to play up so bad last week. It was really frustrating and this message kept popping up. Alhamdulillah, now it seems to have sorted itself out. A positive that did come out of this whole internet malarky was that I began to sleep early at night. If you're a late-night owl, I highly recommend being an early bird to bed once in a while. It will change your whole next day.

Oh my days, these chips. Ok, so even I cannot believe that I'm getting excited about chips. These were discovered by accident. I was making homemade fries for a pizza (don't ask!) and basically discovered my new favourite way to bake them in the oven. Will most definitely share soon!

How cold was it last week? One plus to the cold was the sunshine and beautiful sunrises that came with it. I am the happiest person ever when the sun is out. It's actually embarrassing.

Oh, coffee. One day last week, we ran out. It was so sad. I have one coffee a day and nothing more so to miss it was the worst. I had a coffee headache all day and was questioned about my so-called addiction by all the tea drinkers around me.

Last Sunday, I decided to toast marshmallows on a gas flame and burnt them. Do not try this at home. The smell was bad.

Ever since I can remember, I've never been a fan of fried eggs. I love omelettes, scrambled and boiled but never fried. Until now. I'm loving them! Mainly because I'm a runny yolk fan and am hoping that I'll get another double one like this from August last year.

Ok, new toast addiction. I recently tried this combination and am loving it. I really thought I would hate it but who knew?! All you do is toast up a slice of bread, butter it lightly then spread with soft cream cheese and put on thinly sliced cucumber. The key is to make sure you season the cream cheese and cucumber really well with salt and pepper. My new favourite breakfast. When I'm not enjoying a fried egg that is.

This Quran challenge game has been on our shelf for years. We pulled it down the other night and I won!

I love dipping into this book every now and then. I've had it for years but it still benefits me every time I open it. Let's open it at random and see what we get:

Whatever has befallen you was not meant to escape you, and whatever has escaped you was not meant to befall you. If this belief were to be firmly ingrained in your heart, then all hardship and difficulty would become ease and comfort.

The Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever Allah wishes good for, He inflicts him (with hardship),"

For this reason, do not feel overly troubled if you are afflicted with sickness, the death of a son, or a loss in wealth. Allah has decreed these matters to occur and the decisions are His, and His alone. When we truly have this faith, we shall be rewarded well and our sins shall be atoned for.

For those that are afflicted with disaster, glad tidings await them: so remain patient and happy with your Lord.

My cousins came over yesterday and we basically had the best dessert ever: this giant chocolate chip cookie to which I added the zest of 1 orange (so good!) + this chocolate fudge sauce (I halved the sauce recipe) + vanilla whipped cream. Everything went so well together - the hot cookie, hot sauce and cold cream. I only did cream because we ran out of vanilla ice cream.

This little cookie came along too in the prettiest dress but had to make do with milk. As always!

Hope you have a good Sunday!

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!
