More Honeycomb Disasters, Misty Skies and Chocolate Orange: 27 December - 2 January 2014/15

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Saturday: Today, I decided to have another attempt at honeycomb.
Honeycomb is one of those things where everything has to be ready for it. A lined tin, a board for the hot pan and the bicarbonate of soda - ready to make it fizz up.
This was attempt 3. It tasted good but was too chewy at the end.
For attempt 4, out came the thermometer.
Result? It looked great but tasted awful. Oh, and let's not mention the burnt sugar stench it brought with it which lingered throughout the kitchen for a day or two.
This is the recipe I used. Any tips or good recipes would be welcome in the comments.

Sunday: Sunday morning.
Ingredients out for something naturally gluten-free.
And, it had coffee in it. Heaven. Here is the full recipe.
Sunday afternoon.
Today, I tried a recipe out to use up this giant bag of popcorn.
Hint: it contained salted penauts. Another heaven.
Sunday evening. Speaking of heaven, I can't wait to share this recipe with you. Here is the full recipe!
Monday: The weather was very misty and foggy on Monday morning. It suddenly happened - v. creepy.
Especially with all the trees bare at this time of year.
There were a few bright spots though.
It's good to know that flowers continue to bloom throughout the winter months.
After a misty morning walk ..

... we came home to this beautiful bud about to blossom.
And, one of my favourites, crisp apples with these giant sweet dates.
Today was the perfect day to bake what with the weather and all. First, a mountain of orange zest. It smelt so good.
The recipe was well worth it. But it confirmed to me that I always start baking really late into the day, and more often than not, run out of time at the end. Need to work on that this year, Insha Allah.

Spicy lamb meatballs for dinner with tortilla/cucumber/cherry tomato/pickled pepper.
Tuesday: One of those mornings that took my breath away when opening the curtains.
A stunning start to the day.
Slicing and photographing this piece of chocolate heaven - recipe coming, inshallah.
Chocolate ganache being whipped up with the usual chocolate, double cream and two extra-special ingredients.
Cake, meet ganache. Heaven.
And, to round off the day, a little dinner prep. Here is the full recipe.
Wednesday: The last day of 2014! How is this possible? Chicken for dinner.
Chicken mince, made very simply.
I ate it with roti (!!!!!) and this. I'll be sharing the chicken recipe soon, inshallah.
Here is the full recipe!
December came to an end today.
As did 2014!
Thursday: No photos from today.
Friday: Ingredients ready to make a quick relish. Recipe coming soon, inshallah.
Who needs cookbooks when you write a foodblog? I was making this recipe btw. It was one of my favourites from 2014.
Chocolate chunks and ...
... and orange zest can be only mean one thing.
Another recipe with one of my favourite flavour combinations! Here is the full recipe!
And, they were biscuits not cookies!
