Chinese Fried Rice

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Today I'm going to be sharing a recipe with you for Chinese Fried Rice.

This is such an easy and versatile recipe which can be adapted to whatever you have in the fridge. As long as you have cold boiled rice (and plenty of Eid leftovers), you're ready to go!

Fried Rice, previously: Egg Fried Rice

A Simple List of Ingredients:

1. Vegetable Oil
2. Spring Onions
3. Crushed Ginger
4. Crushed Garlic
5. Bell Peppers
6. Carrots
7. Green Beans
8. Salami or Cooked Chicken
9. Green Chillies
10. Eggs
11. Chinese 5 Spice Powder
12. Soy Sauce
13. Cold Boiled Rice
14. Frozen Peas
15. Salt and Black Pepper

Bismillah, let's begin!

In a large pan or wok, heat up a few tablespoons of Vegetable Oil. Once hot, add in 4 sliced Spring Onions (the white part only), 1/2 teaspoon Crushed Ginger and 1/2 teaspoon Crushed Garlic.
Stir fry until the onions soften - this will only take a few minutes. Keep the heat on medium.

Add in 1 Bell Pepper, diced.

1 Carrot, peeled and diced

Handful of Green Beans, roughly chopped

Handful of Salami or Cooked Chicken, roughly chopped

And, 2 Green Chillies, sliced - or more if you like it spicy! Give everything a good stir on a medium heat for a few minutes until the veggies begin to soften slightly.

Time to add the seasoning - sprinkle in 1 teaspoon (or to taste) of Chinese 5 Spice Powder.

If you don't have the Chinese 5 Spice then add in 1/2 teaspoon of White Pepper and 1/2 teaspoon of Black Pepper instead.
But I highly recommend the 5 Spice - it tastes so good and is available in most supermarkets.

Next, pour in 2 tablespoons of Soy Sauce. Give everything a good stir on a medium heat.

Next, add in a few handfuls of Cold Boiled Rice - break the rice up with your fingers if it's in clumps.

Give it a good stir for a few minutes on a medium heat until it begins to heat up. Season with Salt and Pepper, to taste.

And, I almost forgot - the peas!

Pour in a handful of Frozen Peas. Stir them in, and then cover the pan and leave on a low heat whilst you make an omelette.

Crack 2 eggs into a bowl, and whisk with a fork. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Heat a little oil in a frying pan on a medium to low heat and pour the eggs. Allow them to set and then flip over to make your omelette! If it breaks, don't panic - we are going to slice it up anyway.

Uncover your rice and add in the greens from the spring onions that we sliced earlier.

Slice your omelette into pieces and toss them in too.

And, your Chinese Fried Rice is ready!

Give it a final taste for seasoning and adjust if needed.

Serve up!
