Peri Peri Chicken Wraps

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Who doesn't love the peri peri flavour?

And, yes, you can buy the sauces and spice rubs in the shops these days, but sometimes I like to make my own. Here, is another of my homemade peri peri sauces - this time wrapped up in a tortilla wrap!

A Simple List of Ingredients:

1. Green Chillies
2. Garlic Cloves
3. Bell Pepper
4. Lemon Juice
5. Paprika
6. Salt
7. Dried Oregano
8. Red Chilli Powder
9. Olive Oil
10. Malt Vinegar
11. Black Pepper
12. Boneless Chicken Pieces
13. Vegetable Oil
14. Salad
15. Mayonnaise
16. Tomato Ketchup
17. Hot Chilli Sauce
18. Tortilla Wraps

Bismillah, let's begin!

This is such an easy recipe. It's just a case of blending the marinade ingredients together, and then cooking with the chicken.

So, into a blender, place 2 Green Chillies.

3 Garlic Cloves, peeled

1 Bell Pepper, roughly chopped (use any coloured pepper you like)

Juice of 1/2 Lemon

1 tablespoon Paprika

1 teaspoon Salt

1 tablespoon Dried Oregano

1/2 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder

4 tablespoons Olive Oil

2 tablespoons Malt Vinegar

And, Black Pepper, to taste.

Blend the sauce until smooth.

Then, take 1 pound of Boneless Chicken Pieces.

Add the sauce.

Mix and leave to marinade for a few hours.

Heat a few tablespoons of vegetable oil in a pan, and cook the chicken on either side until completely cooked through.

Like this!

To make a quick sauce, mix together:
A few tablespoons of Mayonnaise
1 tablespoon of Tomato Ketchup
1/2 tablespoon of Hot Chilli Sauce

To assemble, take a warm tortilla wrap. I heated mine in the microwave for a few seconds.

Add a little sauce.

Some chicken - after further experiments, I realised that it's better to slice or shred the chicken than to add it whole.

And some salad (same here - make sure to slice it smaller than mine)

And wrap! I find it easier to wrap it this way because then nothing falls out but each to their own!

Serve the wraps on their own or with potato wedges!

Peri Peri Chicken Wraps

For the Chicken
2 Green Chillies
3 Garlic Cloves, peeled
1 Bell Pepper, roughly chopped
Juice of ½ Lemon
1 tablespoon Paprika
1 teaspoon Salt
1 tablespoon Dried Oregano
½ teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
4 tablespoons Olive Oil
2 tablespoons Malt Vinegar
Black Pepper, to taste
1 pound Boneless Chicken Pieces
Vegetable Oil, to fry

For the Wrap
Salad of your choice (I used tomatoes, lettuce and cucumber)
Few tablespoons Mayonnaise
1 teaspoon Tomato Ketchup
½ teaspoon Hot Chilli Sauce
Few Tortilla Wraps

1.          First, make the marinade for the chicken. Place all the ingredients except the chicken into a blender and blend until smooth. Add the sauce to the chicken, and mix well.

2.          Marinade the chicken for a few hours or overnight, but you can use straight away if you’re in a rush.

3.          Heat a few tablespoons of the vegetable oil into a frying pan, and cook the chicken on either side until cooked through. You could also bake or grill the chicken.

4.          For the sauce, mix the mayo, ketchup and chilli sauce together.

5.          Take a wrap. Add some cooked chicken, salad and sauce. Wrap up and dig in!

  4. Assalsm-u-Alaikum!
Could you kindly suggest an alternative for paprika and oregano?
    Jazak Allah.

    1. Wasalaam! For the paprika, try smoked paprika or a mild chilli powder. For the oregano, any other dried herbs will work such as dried basil or thyme.

  5. Salam! I've never tried anything with peri-peri sauce before but I'm considering this now :) Alternatives to malt vinegar please?

    1. Wa alaikumus salaam! You must give the peri peri sauce a go! It's one of my favourites! You can use any other vinegar you have! :)
