July 2018: One Photo Everyday.

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

How are we more than halfway through this year?!
It's August tomorrow but today we look back at July. One of the best things I made this month was a lamb biryani. The difference in the recipe is that the lamb pieces were marinaded in yoghurt and spices before being steamed with the rice. Normally, the meat is cooked a little beforehand. I recently was made aware of this "kachi biryani" and just had to give it a go. It was delicious - the steaming time is longer than normal to allow the meat time to cook. But well worth it in the end!

Here's more from my July:

July 1: sunday lunch: mum's yoghurt kofta curry + chickpea pulao + sabzi raita.

July 2: I came across this recipe for peach melba. I made it but had to use nectarines which is all I had in the house. Let's just say they weren't the ripest. Such a shame, the recipe would have been wonderful otherwise. I need to try again with ripe peaches.

July 3: The sweetest cold fruit plate with mango, pineapple, watermelon, orange, and strawberry.

July 4: floating clouds.

July 5: I had so much fun decorating these mini mango cheesecakes.

July 6: spiced, golden salmon.

July 7: fresh radishes!

July 8: my mum wanted to test out a new samosa pastry recipe. it had butter in and tasted like a cross between shortcrust and puff pastry once cooked.

July 9: put those radishes to good use and made parathas.

July 10: fresh ricotta orange pancakes! have you tried them yet?

July 11: slight disaster with my mousse cake. you'll hear about it at the end of the year in my recipe disasters, insha allah.

July 12: naan day! with garlic, green chilli, nigella seeds, and fresh coriander. the recipe is from this book!

July 13: day two of nine weeks summer holiday!

 July 14: saturday night wings.

July 15: eclair shells ready to fill with mango praline cream. recipe is in this book.

July 16: grey mondays need hot pakistani tea, cake rusk, and naan khatai biscuits.

July 17: perfecting her baby shark dance. Apologies in advance!

July 18: rescued my coconut chicken curry from being a complete disaster. note to self: desiccated coconut will never dissolve!

June 19: got the gardener in!

July 20: charred cauliflower quesadillas for a veggie Friday.

July 21: our first time cooking a biryani with raw marinated lamb pieces. the lamb cooks as it steams with the rice! it was delicious! hoping to share it soon, insha allah.

July 22: obsessed with this sabzi raita. I've made it twice this month already!

July 23: using up leftover raw green chutney to make Mumbai chilli cheese toasties.

July 24: I was sceptical about making sweet potatoes the star of my tacos, but these were amazing!!

July 25: put a bag of spinach to good use and made crispy spinach pakoras.

July 26: the mother made the best carrot kheer with raisins. it was so good cold!

July 27: a curry onion tart fresh from the oven.

July 28: rainy day fish and chips.

July 29: been snacking on this banana bread all week.

July 30: Mum's achari daal bubbling away for meatless Monday.

July 31: pulled out my ice cream machine!

Keep me in your duas please, and I hope you've had a great July!

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!
