Cardamom Lassi.

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Ramadan 2018 Mubarak!

How's day two treating you?
Have you slipped back into last year's routine or are you already suffering with Ramadan fatigue? Me? Alhamdulillah, so far so good. I've slipped back into the Ramadan summer routine that I've picked up through these past few years of fasting during some of the longest days of the years.

A few of my traditions include listening to these daily speeches, not sleeping until after Sehri, trying to read at least one part out of the thirty in the Quran everyday, catching up on Makkah Live, sharing a lot of my cooking on Instagram Stories with all of you and of course, blending up all the milkshakes at Iftar.

A few years ago, I shared the recipe for our house mango milkshake which we make as soon as the Pakistani mangoes arrive by the boxful on British shores. Since then, I've had a lot of requests for a simple lassi recipe.
This iconic yoghurt drink is famous all over the Indian subcontinent. My family is familiar with two types - the sweet and the salty. Today, I'll show you how to whip up the classic sweet cardamom lassi. It's the easiest recipe because everything is blended up in your most trusted blender before being served in cold glasses with a final sprinkle of ground cardamom. The lassi is perfect for Iftar when our dry throats are most in need of cooling refreshment. Make it with your favourite yoghurt and as much sugar as you can handle.

A Simple List of Ingredients:
1. Ice Cubes
2. Milk
3. Sugar
4. Ground Cardamom
5. Plain Yoghurt

Bismillah, let's begin!

This lassi is made in a blender so take out your favourite one and get it plugged in. Into it, place 5 Ice Cubes.

Then, pour in 150ml Milk. Some people also add cold water but I found that the milk was enough.

Next, the sugar. I prefer using caster sugar as it's finer than granulated and blends up easier. Also, the sweetness of the lassi is completely up to you so add in as much sugar as you like.

I added in 3 tablespoons Sugar.

Now, the cardamom. I used ground cardamom but if your don't have it in the cupboard, take the seeds out of green cardamoms and grind or bash them up.

Add in 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cardamom.

Finally, the most important ingredient - the yoghurt. You can use any type or brand here but this one above is our family favourite.

Add in 270ml Plain Yoghurt.

And now, we blend.

Until frothy and well combined. Taste and adjust the lassi at this point.

As you can see, this recipe makes about 1/2 a blender jug of lassi - should be enough for 3 glasses.

Pour the lassi into glasses and sprinkle each one with more Ground Cardamom.

Serve the lassi immediately and enjoy its tangy, sweet flavour. 🌙
