Saturday Pancakes + Trifle + Recipe Testing: 31 January - 6 February 2015.

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: Actions are but by intentions and each man will have but that which he intended.
(Saheeh Al-Bukhari)

New beginnings are daily. You have a chance to start over each day with a clean slate and a vision of possibilities. Don't hold onto the mistakes of yesterday, last month or last year. You're given endless chances, but you never let yourself have them.
Chances, choices and change are all gifts from life, waiting for you to open them. Seize this beautiful moment filled with life. Today is the day to break free from the old and embrace the new.

Saturday: Beautiful, giant strawberries to begin the weekend.
Along with fluffy buckwheat pancakes and maple syrup.
The pancakes were adapted from a gingerbread pancake recipe I made back in December.
Plus, fresh flowers to put around the house.
How beautiful are these tulips? They're one of my favourite flowers.
My mum made this green chilli pickle today. It was super spicy!
And, for dinner, this recipe but with chicken.
So good with flatbreads and the homemade pickle.
Sunday: More flowers on a Sunday morning.
There are always flowers for those who want to see them.
Lunch prep!
Cauliflower carnage!
And, lunch is ready! Alhamdulillah, it was so good.
After I carry out a few tweaks to the recipe, I will cook it again Insha Allah, and share it with all of you. It's perfect for summer!
Sunday night soup in the making! This week, a minestrone adapted from this recipe.
And, a few muffins in the making - filled with plenty of orangey goodness! Is orangey even a word?
Brushed with marmalade and ready for Monday morning!
Monday: Monday morning chunky marmalade muffins for breakfast.
I'm obsessed with tulips.
Minestrone soup for lunch, adapted from this recipe.
Snacking on these chocolate covered raisins.
Dinner prep - vegetarian night!
A successful recipe test and Monday night dinner.
Tuesday: Today, I tested a recipe for pitta bread.
Result? They were amazing. Really soft and fluffy. I'll be testing them again this weekend and pretty soon, sharing them with you, Insha Allah.
We ate them with cucumber, lettuce, fresh lemon wedges and ...
.. Keema, this time with the addition of fresh spinach, extra green chillies and a good squeeze of fresh lemon juice. So good.
Ideas.
Wednesday: Today, I began a recipe test for a Trifle.
That moment when the flour is sucked into a Swiss roll batter.
I spread my Swiss roll with homemade mixed berry jam which I made back in September.

I used my go-to Swiss Roll recipe, and you can find it here.
Next, a test of a homemade custard recipe.
It was going pretty well until a higher heat led to ...
.. it curdling. Boo! The recipe I tried is here.
Later, ice cream.
And, an old friend.
Thursday: Today was a good day for a Trifle.
What can I say? When has a trifle ever not been good?
A vegetarian pasta dish for dinner tonight.
I adapted the recipe from here. I used a small onion instead of the shallot. Dried sage instead of fresh sage and normal pasta instead of tortellini.

Friday: Current favourite.
Also, a Hadith I read today:
The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: Verily Allah does not look at your outward form and wealth; rather He looks at your hearts and deeds.
(Saheeh Muslim)
And, a recipe test for a new fish main course.
Which turned out pretty good and made a delicious, warming end to the week.
