British Pancakes

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

This recipe is for British Pancakes. These are great for a weekend breakfast, and are lighter and thinner than American Pancakes. Traditional fillings include lemon juice and sugar, but to be honest you could fill them with anything you like!

A Simple List of Ingredients:

1. Plain Flour

2. Salt
3. Milk
4. Eggs
5. Melted Butter
6. Vegetable Oil
7. Sugar
8. Lemon Juice

Bismillah, let's begin!

To make the pancake batter, sieve 7 ounces (198 grams) of plain flour into a mixing bowl.

Add a pinch of salt.

Mix together and then make a well in the centre.

Take 1 pint of milk.

Add a little milk at a time ..

.. whisking all the while ..

.. until all the milk has been whisked in.

Crack in two eggs.

Beat in.

Next, take 1 ounce (28 grams) of melted butter.

Pour it into the batter.

And, whisk well!

Heat a few teaspoons of vegetable oil in a frying pan over a medium heat. Add a ladleful of the batter.

Spread out to make a pancake.

Cook for 30 seconds on a medium heat until bubbles appear.

Then, flip the pancake over, and cook the other side for 30 seconds.

Once golden brown on both sides, remove to a plate. Carry on making the rest of the pancakes.

One serving suggestion is to sprinkle sugar over the pancake.

And, then squeeze on some lemon juice.

Another suggestion is to spread Nutella over the hot pancake.

Roll the pancakes up.

And, dust with icing sugar.

For a savoury version, spread on some spicy mixed pickle (achar).

Fold and serve!

However you choose to fill these pancakes, they will be delicious inshallah!

Wasalaam!
